About this kilt
The Buchanan clan originated in the 12th century, with its name reflecting early ties to the church. The clan’s ancestral seat was Buchanan Castle near Loch Lomond, symbolizing its power in central Scotland. The Buchanans are believed to descend from Clan Alpin, with Anselan de Buchanan recorded as early as the 12th century. The clan played a significant role in the Wars of Independence and gained substantial lands in the 14th and 15th centuries. In the 17th century, the Buchanans were involved in the Civil War and later impacted by the Jacobite risings. Today, the clan remains a symbol of Scottish heritage, honored worldwide by its descendants.
