The clan played significant roles in the Wars of Scottish Independence and fought at the Battle of Flodden in 1513. By the 16th century, the Elliots were deeply involved in the lawless reiver culture, often crossing into England for raids. Despite their troubled history, their strong sense of kinship and loyalty to their chief defined the clan's legacy.
