Unlike many other Scottish clans, the Thomson clan does not have an extensive history but is rooted in the patronymic name "Thomson," derived from the father’s name. Originally from the Scottish Borders, the Thomson family is now more associated with Dundee in eastern Scotland.
The tartan features thick dark gray stripes against a mostly light gray background, interspersed with thin lines of red, black, and white colors.
