Questions about ordering a kilt

How do I measure myself for a kilt?
You need three numbers. Waist, taken at the natural waist just above the hip bone where a kilt sits, which is higher than where trousers sit. Hip, taken around the widest point of the seat. Length, from that waist line to the middle of the kneecap while standing. Take them over a shirt, keep the tape level and do not pull it tight. Photos of each step are in the measuring guide.
What is the difference between 5, 8 and 9 yards?
Yardage is how much cloth goes into the pleats. Five yards is lighter and less full, which suits everyday and warm weather wear. Eight and nine yards give deeper pleats, more weight and more swing, which is what most people want for a wedding or a formal event. See the 8 yard traditional kilt and the wedding kilts.
What is the difference between sett pleats and stripe pleats?
Sett pleats repeat the pattern across the back of the kilt exactly as it appears on the front apron. Stripe pleats centre one stripe on every pleat instead, which gives a bolder striped back. Both are traditional finishes and both cost the same. The choice is offered on 8 and 9 yard kilts, because a 5 yard casual kilt is knife pleated without matching the pattern.
How long does a made to measure kilt take?
Standard production is 1 to 3 weeks from the day your order is confirmed, because the cloth is stocked and cutting starts immediately. Rush production in 7 to 10 days is available at checkout when your date is already fixed.
What if it does not fit when it arrives?
Contact us and we will put it right. Every kilt is cut to the measurements you send rather than to a size chart, so tell us what is off and we will work out the fix with you. Full details on the returns and fit page.
