About the MacKenzie Tartan

Colours in the MacKenzie Tartan are dark blue, black and dark green. Every tartan is a repeating block of colour that runs in both directions through the cloth. Getting a garment right means cutting to that repeat so the checks meet cleanly at every seam and run true down a pleat.

Is MacKenzie Plaid the same as MacKenzie Tartan?
Yes. Plaid is the word most buyers use in the United States and tartan is the older name for the same cloth. MacKenzie plaid and MacKenzie tartan are the same pattern.
How wide is the cloth, and can I order any length?
The cloth runs approximately 20 inches wide. Order from 1 yard upwards and we cut to whatever length you ask for, as one continuous piece. There is no minimum beyond a single yard and no rounding up to a set size. If you need an unusual length or more than 100 yards, contact us and we will quote it.
What is the fabric made from?
Premium acrylic yarn, woven to the tartan's own pattern. It holds its colour through washing and keeps a pleat, which is what a kilt needs. We do not use wool and we do not use undisclosed blends.
